Bands and the Long Tail of Internet Promotion
Today I had an interview with Scott Galupo of the Washington Times. He was looking for some insight into methods bands are using the internet to promote themselves and wether the music industry will embrace these methods. Obviously I gave Stickam a mention in terms of a free tool bands can use for self promotion. Really though there are tons of ways for bands to get their name out there, they just need to use the tools to their full potential.
As for wether the industry will embrace these methods and tools, I think we'll have to wait and see. Really the Recording Industry has been moving glacially slow in terms of the changes on the internet. The fact is a band can find an audience and promote themselves online without the need for the Recording Industry. The Long Tail effect can be seen in full effect on the internet, all it takes is a band to go out there and embrace it.
The article should be published on Friday. I'll link it once its up.
