Video sites simplify sharing

March 26, 2006

"Video-sharing sites seem to appear as quickly as entrepreneurs can raise a few bucks and come up with a catchy name. The sites include ClipShack, Google Video, Grouper, Metacafe, Revver, Sharkle, Streamload, Stickam, TagWorld, Vimeo, vMix and YouTube, among others. " Read more

New Privacy Settings for Live Chat

privacysettings.jpg
Going to your preferences within your Live Chat window, you can find a new privacy setting. If you uncheck the "Allow non member chat," users who are not logged in cannot chat with you from within your embedded player and cannot get to your enlarged chat without logging in. This should help if you don't want to deal with random non-members popping in and sending messages.

This is one in a series of enhanced privacy settings we will be implementing soon.

Tip #2206 - Stickam

- worldstart.com

"I fell in love with this site and have been there everyday since it went live on February 15th. What is really wild is that if you have a Webcam, you get on the video chat, or you can use Stickam to get the code to stick your Web cam on your Web page. This is uber cool. " Read more

When somebody wants to chat with you, they don't have to open up a new application; they can do it all from the Web page they're on. And as long as you have your Stickam control windows open on your PC or phone, you can communicate with everybody out there, no matter what site they are finding you on.0’s and some kid videos. This looks pretty coolio. " Read more

Texasgigs.com On Stickam @ SXSW

texasgigs.gif
Heres a blog post from http://www.texasgigs.com/ about Stickam at SXSW. They seemed to like our booth a lot amongst the other SXSW Interactive participants.

Read the post here: Stickam: A killer app for band promotion (and much more)

SXSW Report

Heres our SXSW Stickam player where you can check out some pictures and video from the conference show floor and after hours on 6th street. As you can see in the video uploaded, the streets were packed. It was too much fun and I got to see some great shows every night. We met so many cool people at the convention during the day and gave so much flyers during the night it all seems like a blur. Stickam also seemed to have some of the best swag giveaways at the show with our webcams, t-shirts, and the surprisingly popular tissues. All in all it was a great show and I hope we will return next year, maybe with some couches set up for show goers. A real life Stickam Lounge chatroom maybe?

How To: Setting Up Flash

After noticing some people having trouble setting up their webcam for Stickam I thought I'd make a quick help guide. If your webcam has the proper driver and is working with other applications but not on the Stickam site, it may have to do with your Flash settings being set wrong.

flash settings step 1.gif
The first step is to right click (or ctrl click for macs) any flash element on the Stickam page. Its easiest to just right click where your video should show up in your Go Live page. You should see a window like the one pictured above. Select Settings.

flash settings step 2.gif
This brings up the Flash Settings window for your browser. First off be sure to allow stickam to access your camera and mic and check the remember box.

flash settings step 3.gif
Next select the microphone tab and choose your mic input from the pull down menu.

flash settings step 4.gif
Now select the web cam tab and choose your camera input from the pull down menu. (If you have a built in iSight on a Mac - the input should be USB Class Video)

And that should do it. If for some reason your camera is not showing up in the pull down menu you may not have the driver properly installed or you may need to try a different browser.

New Stickam Chatroom Ignore Feature

ignore.gif
This week we have added some new features for our chatrooms. Any user in the chatroom can now choose to "ignore" another user. "Ignore" will stop all audio, video, and text chat from being seen by the user. To do this, simply click the user name you wish to ignore and select the "Ignore" option. You can also "Un-ignore" that person to bring back all their chats, video, and audio. This will only affect the user for that session so if they log-out and return you would have to re-ignore them. For a more permanent solution we will be making a "block" function soon.
